You’re Invited: Barcelona with H&B

The girls are at it again this fall! Inspired by our unforgettable tour of the Andalusia region this spring, H and B have decided to spend October in Barcelona, Tossa de Mar, and Menorca. Yes, you read that right—we chose Menorca over Mallorca this time (more on that later). If you can’t join us on this time around, don’t worry—we’re here to help you plan your dream getaway to Barcelona, Menorca, or Tossa de Mar whenever you’re ready.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know for a memorable trip of your own—from where to stay and what to do, to insider tips for each spot. So whether you’re planning your first trip to Barcelona or looking for a more off-the-beaten-path escape to Menorca or Tossa de Mar, we’ve got you covered.

Barcelona

Barcelona is one of those destinations that keeps calling you back with its vibrant energy, rich history, and of course, breathtaking architecture. It’s the perfect city for first-timers or seasoned travelers looking for a mix of culture, food, and fun.

Where to Stay

Situated in the Gothic Quarter, Hotel Neri is a luxurious boutique hotel housed in a 12th-century building. Its prime location makes it ideal for exploring Barcelona's historic sites, and it focuses on eco-friendly practices, including water and energy conservation.

Hotel Colón

An iconic hotel located in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, directly across from the Barcelona Cathedral. It’s known for its unbeatable location, offering stunning views of the cathedral from many rooms and the rooftop terrace.

Hotel Casa Bonay

Centrally located in the Eixample neighborhood, this boutique hotel offers a stylish, laid-back vibe and is close to major attractions like La Sagrada Familia and Plaça de Catalunya. It blends modern design with sustainability efforts like solar panels and local partnerships.

What to Do

  • Barcelona is synonymous with Antoni Gaudí’s iconic architecture. Start with La Sagrada Familia, his unfinished basilica that’s one of the most unique buildings in the world. For a more playful experience, head to Park Güell and stroll through its colorful mosaics and imaginative sculptures. Don't miss Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, two other Gaudí creations that will leave you amazed by his visionary designs.

  • The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) is a maze of narrow streets packed with history. Visit the Barcelona Cathedral and explore the ancient Roman walls. Stop by Plaça Sant Felip Neri, a hidden square that tells stories of the Spanish Civil War. It’s the perfect area for getting lost in the charm of old Barcelona.

  • This bustling street is one of the most famous in the city. Start at Plaça de Catalunya and wander down towards Port Vell, stopping by La Boqueria Market for fresh fruits, tapas, or a glass of cava. Beware of tourist traps, but the atmosphere here is always lively and worth a stroll.

  • Barcelona’s beaches are perfect for a mix of city and sea. Barceloneta Beach is the most famous and closest to the city center, but for a more local vibe, try Bogatell Beach or Ocata Beach for a relaxed escape.

  • Experience a traditional night of Spanish culture by enjoying tapas at spots like El Xampanyet or Bodega 1900 before catching a live flamenco show at Tablao Flamenco Cordobés or Palau Dalmases.

Day Trips from Barcelona

Just an hour from Barcelona, the Montserrat Monastery offers breathtaking views from its mountaintop perch. Hike or take the funicular to the top, visit the Benedictine abbey, and admire the famous Black Madonna. The surrounding mountains are also perfect for a day of hiking or horseback riding.
