Where You Can See The Southern Lights
The Southern Lights, also known as Aurora Australis, are a natural light display that occurs in the Southern Hemisphere, similar to the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in the Northern Hemisphere. The phenomenon is caused by the interaction between charged particles from the sun (solar wind) and the Earth's magnetic field.
The Southern Lights are typically visible during the winter months (May to August in the Southern Hemisphere) when nights are longer, and skies are darker. They are most visible during periods of high solar activity.
Locations Of Aurora Australis
Patagonia, Chile/Argentina
South Georgia Island
The Falkland Islands
Antarctica
Tasmania, Australia
Otago Peninsula, New Zealand
Stewart Island, New Zealand
Ultimately, while they are the same scientific phenomenon, the Northern Lights are better known due to their visibility in more populated and accessible areas, whereas the Southern Lights are more elusive but equally beautiful.
