Best Hikes in the USA

In true military daughter style, B has been hiking trails around the US since she was a little girl. In fact, hiking was one of the main reasons she started to fall in love with travel. Without any further introduction, please enjoy her completely biased list of the best hikes in the United States.

Angels Landing - ZIon National Park

I won’t expect any arguments on this one. An amazing hike for all the adrenaline junkies out there. Sadly, as of 2022 this hike now requires a permit for those wanting to go all the way to the top. Make sure you plan far in advance!

Charlies Bunion - Great Smoky Mountain National Park

I’ve hiked in GSMNP five times throughout my life and each time I find a new favorite. Charlies Bunion via the Appalachian Trail offers mixed terrain to keep your interest during the 8 mile trek. Wear good shoes and head out early to enjoy the views before the crowds arrive.

Old Rag - Shenandoah National Park

A quick steep incline up the mountain followed by a rock scramble through massive boulders.

El Yunque Peak Tower, Los Picachos - El Yunque National Rainforest

If you get the chance to hike in a rainforest - do it. One second you’re drenched in sweat from the heat and humidity and the next the rain is washing it all away.

Matanuska Glacier - Alaska

I mean this one is self explanatory. If you love hiking make sure to add a glacier hike to your bucket list.

Mount Le Conte - Great Smoky Mountain National Park

This hike really humbled me but it was truly such an incredible experience. For those with extra time, plan in advance and book one of the rustic cabins at the top of the mountain.

Kings Canyon Lookout Point - Kings Canyon National PArk

Getting to the trailhead may prove difficult but the views and small crowds are worth it. Make sure to use your map as it’s easy to get off track.

Avalanche Peak - Yellowstone National Park

Looking to escape the crowds in Yellowstone? Set out early on this 4.5 mile hike and enjoy the summit to yourself. Pack layers and come prepared as there may be snow waiting for you!

Beehive Loop Trail - Acadia National Park

Get the chance to hike along the side of a mountain via iron rungs for a spectacular view of the Gulf of Maine.

Pyramid Point Trail - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Did you think I’d make it through the whole list without mentioning Michigan? See for yourself just how grand and beautiful the Great Lakes are with amazing views from this hike.
